The Best Crochet Gifts
One of the most wonderful things about crochet is being able to make unique gifts for your family and friends.
These patterns will give you a range of options – all destined to become gorgeous gifts for your loved ones.

There are so many options when it comes to crocheting gifts that it can be hard to know where to start. Over the years I’ve developed a bit of system for narrowing it down, which hopefully you’ll find helpful too.
First I like to consider the age of the recipient.
- For babies it’s best to stick with blankets, as it is hard to make even so-called baby safe toys actually 100% safe for babies
- With kids you have so many more options. Although some people love to crochet kids clothes, I advise caution. My son would love someone to crochet him clothes (he adores the knitted sweaters my aunt makes for him) but my daughter would absolutely hate to have someone choose her clothes for her. Amigurumi tend to be a safe bet even into the early teens, even better if you know what their favorite animal is.
- Adults the possibilities are pretty much endless, so it’s a bit harder to narrow down. You have to think of other factors.
When crocheting adult friends or family members’ gifts I try to choose something that they would like over what I like. Which can be easier said than done, if you’re anything like me. Try to select something by topic, I find it’s the most likely to be a success when you are confident that the gift is going to fit with their aesthetic, style or something you’ve seen them admire in a store in the past.
Once I’ve selected the item I think about color last of all. If it’s a natural crochet project I will always stay with the natural color scheme. If it’s a blanket or a mythical amigurumi pattern, then even if it is a toy I will still try to go with a color scheme that I know they are a fan of. People are way more sensitive to color than you might think in my experience, and it can really make or break the success of your gift.
BIG GESTURE BLANKETS
Inspiration for large projects that are well worth the effort
These projects require some serious commitment in terms of time and often quite a lot of money too. Unless you’ve got 6 – 12 skeins of the colored yarn you need, depending on the size of afghan you’re aiming for, in your stash, this is going to be quite the investment. Make sure you are really sure that it is going to be well received. How I’ve felt when someone clearly hasn’t loved a four hour project I’ve made compared with how I felt the time I made a blanket and it was all but sneered at… that time matters, and so does your happiness!

Quick Keychains
I absolutely love giving people crochet keychains. They are for the most part quick and relatively easy patterns, but they are also practical. And your friend can remember you (and be impressed by your crochet skills) every time they unlock the front door!
TIMELESS CROCHET TOYS
I cannot tell you how much joy I get from sharing these traditionally styled crochet toys. I don’t keep a lot of my finished amigurumi designs, they are normally pretty quickly grabbed by my kids or ear marked as gifts for my family and friend’s kids.

They make fabulous presents, for moms, sisters and friends. And can even be made at the very last minute!
