Bean Stitch Crochet Keychain
I don’t know about you, but I really love bean stitches. Not only do they add a pretty pattern to your crochet, but the texture is really lovely too. This is one of my favorites in terms of how easy it is to hold and fidget with, something I do with my keys quite a lot!
What You’ll Need
- 4mm crochet hook
- DK yarn
- Yarn needle (optional for sewing in loose ends)
I used a 50% cotton acrylic blend yarn from Hobbii for the keychains you’ll see pictured among this crochet pattern. I highly recommend you use a cotton blend of at least 40% or more, because keychains put up with a lot of punishment and cotton is a tough fiber. They will be bent, misshapen, and definitely need cleaning. All of which are best suited to a more durable yarn material!
The Stitches
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
bs – bean stitch
Bean Stitch
Insert hook, yarn over and pull through. Yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch, yarn over and pull through. Yarn over again, insert hook into the same stitch again, yarn over and pull through. Yarn over a final time and pull through all six loops on your hook.
If you are struggling to make bean stitches into your chain, try remaking the chain with a larger size of crochet hook to give you bigger loops. I also find that pulling through the six loops on the hook is easiest with a more narrow but sharper ended crochet hook.

Insert the keychain onto the crocheted fabric and push it to half way down, then fold the fabric so that the narrow ends are next to each other.
