Crochet Easter Basket
It’s going to be a crochet based Easter in my house this year! I’ve already shared my crochet easter egg pattern, and this basket is very specifically designed to complement those in terms of it’s style and colors.
The pattern is worked from a magic circle, with a plain flat base, styled with sedge style stitches around the edges, and finished with shell stitches around the top.
If you want to give your handle some extra structure like I have, you can add a pipe cleaner into that to make it easier to pose and hold.
The Stitches
- Magic circle
- sc – single crochet
- 2sc – make two single crochets into the same stitch
- slst – slip stitch
- ch – chain
- BLO – crochet into the back loop only
- cc – color change
- dc – double crochet
- sk – skip the next stitch
What You’ll Need
- 3.5mm crochet hook (for the main crocheted basket)
- 4.5mm crochet hook (for the handle)
- Yarn needle
- 50g cream DK cotton blend yarn
- 50g dark pink DK cotton blend yarn
- 50g light pink DK cotton blend yarn
- 1 pipe cleaner
- Scissors
I used Hobbii’s Go Handmade Cosy yarn for this pattern, and if you swap for a different yarn I recommend looking for one in the same weight that has a similar 60% cotton 40% acrylic blend.

Crocheting The Handle
I worked the handle by holding two strands of yarn at the same time, using a 4.5mm crochet hook.

Row 1
Ch 41
Row 2
sk1, 1sc x 40
Row 3 – 4
ch2, 1sc x 39
Hold the pipe cleaner along the length of the fabric
Row 5
Join the two sides of the crochet together longways, keeping the pipecleaner inside, by single crocheting the fourth row to the starting chain at the equivalent side.
Attaching the Handle
Mark the stitches at the top of the basket at either side to ensure even placement of the handle. They should be 8.5 shell stitches apart.

Use a yarn needle to attach the handle with the space between row 3 and four flush with the inside of the basket.
When you have attached the handles to the sides of the basket, hide the loose ends inside the handles.
