Textured Crochet Ridge Stitches
I love ridge stitches, and I think they can look the most dramatic and give the best texture when they are put together as a textured panel.
Today I want to quickly show you how I work up these raised ridge stitches as a combination of single and double crochets, working into patterned rows of the back or front loop. Don’t worry, it’s simpler than it sounds!
You can use this stitch combination to make gorgeous blankets, although it is fairly yarn hungry, or as a part of a scarf or even thick, warm sweater.
The Stitches
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
FLO – front loop only
BLO – back loop only
My example will be worked from a starting chain of 23 stitches, but you can use any number of chains + 3 to make up your own project.
Foundation Row
Make a chain (in my example of 23 loops)
1dc into each loop from the 3rd chain from the hook
Row 1
Ch2 (counts as the first dc), then 1dc into the FLO to the end of the row.
(Don’t forget to make a stitch into the top of the starting chain too.)
Row 2
Ch1, 1sc into the BLO for the length of the row.
Row 3
Ch1, 1sc into the FLO for the length of the row.
Row 4
Ch2, 1dc into the BLO for the length of the row.
Row 5 and onwards
Repeat row 2 – row 4 as many times as you desire, but for the nicest finish try to end on a row 2 pattern.
