In this article I am going to give you a Free Crochet Panda Pattern.
I have made the example crochet panda shown in the illustrations in white and purple yarn.
If you would like to make a more traditionally colored panda crochet toy, then simply substitute the purple yarn for black yarn.
I hope that you enjoy making this adorable little toy as much as I have!
Crochet Panda Bear Pattern Instructions
This panda crochet pattern has some simple fundamental shapes.
Although it is not my easiest crochet toy pattern, beginners should still be happy following it along.
If you are new to crochet then I recommend that you check out these articles before you begin:
- Basic Crochet Techniques and Stitches
- A Guide To Crochet Abbreviations
- How To Crochet A Magic Circle
I will give each new instruction in full words, then with the abbreviations. The rest of the pattern will then simply use abbreviations.
If you are unfamiliar with abbreviations make sure you follow the pattern in the order given to find full instructions for each part.
The crochet panda is made up of several separate shapes, which you will need to sew together upon completion.
Most of the shapes begin with a magic circle, so if you have not used this technique before then I recommend you check out the quick video tutorial in the article linked above.
Stitch markers will help you to keep track of your rounds.
The number of stitches in each round will be shown in brackets at the end of the relevant instructions.
Crochet Panda Equipment
To make the crochet panda bear toy you will need the following equipment
- Size G / 4mm Crochet Hook
- Size C / 2.5mm Crochet Hook
- 191 yards / 100g White DK Yarn
- 191 yards / 100g Purple DK Yarn*
- Small amount of black DK yarn for the eyes
- Toy stuffing
- Stitch markers
In the purple crochet panda illustrated here, I used Paton’s Smoothie DK Yarn.
The yardage will vary slightly from that shown above if you choose an alternative brand.
*Substitute purple for black yarn if you would like to make a more traditional style toy.

Joining Your Crochet Panda Bear Together
Gather all of your parts. You should have
- 1 body
- 1 head
- 2 eye patches
- 2 ears
- 4 legs (2 purple, 2 white)
- 1 nose
Begin by sewing the head onto the body. Attach it at the end with the purple stripe.
Then sew two purple legs onto the purple stripe. Make sure that they sit close together, below the panda’s neck.
Sew the two white back legs onto the back end, just before it starts to decrease.
You can then work the facial features on.
Sew the nose onto the tip of the initial magic circle. Sew your eye patches so that they expand from the muzzle onto the broader part of the head.
Then you can stitch in eyes with your black yarn, working around the starting magic circle.
