I had to play yarn chicken (the yarn was a found treasure and a bit short for the pattern). I solved it by crocheting his tummy patch by changing colors on the tummy side of the body. So, I was able to give him a belly button.
One instruction I would add to pattern is that the body is started at the neck. I figured it out as I designed the tummy, but it would have been helpful to see it written.

Thanks for the fun pattern.

Hi Sue, Sorry to hear it’s not turning out as you would like. It might be that the hook is too large for the yarn, I tend to size down my hook from the recommended size on the yarn packet as amigurumi tends to favour a smaller hook size. I’d grab a hook that’s 1mm or even 2mm smaller and make up a little sample to see if that’s the cause. Hope that helps!

Should we be using the tighter method? I’m wondering about yarn underu yarn under method, rather than yo-yo. What do suggest to avoid holes.

Thanks Deb! I’ve just grabbed the highland cow from my daughter’s bed, and he’s 10 inches tall in his sitting position (although he’s probably squashed down a little from when I made him!) You can absolutely make him in worsted weight yarn, I recommend using a hook that’s 0.5mm smaller than the one recommended on the packaging from experience. Hope you enjoy making him!

A friend sent me a picture and asked if I could make the highland cow. I think I can do this. What is the finished (approx) size?

Also could this be made entirely with worsted weight? (of course I know it would be smaller.

Once again thank you for the pattern it is written quite straightforward and will be easy to follow.

This chart is fantastic, like you I use us terms for stitches, they make more sense to me, converting yarn and hook size to uk version was a problem for me having to Google it every time.
I’ve just completed your rhino from the free pattern. It was so easy to follow and he looks so cute. My grandson loves it , rhino’s are his favourite animal. Thank you, love the YouTube videos too. Kind regards Junex
