My family spends a lot of time in the car at weekends, so it’s one of my main crocheting locations.
But it also a big increase in the stitch count of whatever project I happen to be working on.
On Saturday morning we drove up to meet some friends at the National Archives, who were holding a kids workshop day.
Crochet Bag Progress
I made some great progress with my crochet bag on the way there and back.
Although I’m happy with how the orange yarn is looking, it has been a nightmare to work. Constantly tangling and shedding mountains of fluff onto my legs.
I was glad to start with the yellow shade, which doesn’t seem to have the same effect.
National Archives Open Day
The National Archives open day was pretty fun for the first hour and a half.
There were crafts and activities, which kept even our three year old fairly engaged.
And the husband, who made his very own crown too.
But then we were taken outside for a reenactment.
Don’t get me wrong – it was fine. For adults. But this was meant as a part of a short day aimed at children.
I have never seen so many tiny faces look so terribly bored. It began with forty minutes of essentially an adult lecture on medieval garb. The nice bloke knew his stuff, but the terminology which he used had even some grown-up brows furrowing in confusion.
About forty five minutes in, we had to quietly slip away and go grab some lunch, before the girls turned from fidgety but well behaved kids into tiny bored demons.
Overall though it was a lovely day, and we drove back through heavy traffic in the early afternoon. And do you know what? It just happened to be in the direction of the yarn store.
New Crochet Unicorn Commission
I was given a new commission yesterday, and I am very excited about it. A crochet unicorn, based upon my crochet horse pattern.
I am going to be adapting it into a more leggy, paler version of itself, with rainbow hair and a pink horn.
I picked up this Smoothie DK yarn as a starting point, and I might use the rainbow yarn I bought last week for the hair.
I also had to have this plastic crochet hook, for the chunky scarves I am planning soon!
Today I will hopefully have time to finish the lovely crochet Lab I have been working on, and when I have work on the crochet unicorn can start.
I will let you know how I get along, and share the pattern on here for free when it’s complete.
